Big Sandy SWCD "Striving to provide and promote leadership in Conservation of Natural Resources through stewardship and education."

At BSSWCD we offer several programs in which to help provide and promote Soil and Water Conservation.

We provide conservation planning to farmers in Buchanan County.We assist farmers through the VIRGINIA AGRICULTURAL BEST MANAGMENT PRACTICES program with cost share funding.

We also are the administrators of the EROSION & SEDIMENT CONTROL PROGRAM for Buchanan County.Which includes plan review,inspection,and enforcement of E & S regulations.

Big Sandy SWCD also partners with Southeast Rural Community Assistance Project to provide low- income residents of Buchanan County with their water and wastewater needs.

We place Environmental Education as a major part of our daily activities toward improving the Environmental Awareness of our community.

We offer a variety of Educational programs for both in and out of the classroom.
